Discover Bosa Coastal Italian

If you’re strolling through downtown Haverhill and find yourself near 160 Merrimack St, Haverhill, MA 01830, United States, you’ll probably catch the warm glow and coastal vibe of Bosa Coastal Italian before you even check the menu posted outside. I stopped in on a busy Friday night, and within minutes it was clear this isn’t just another Italian spot-it’s a thoughtfully crafted dining experience that leans heavily into fresh ingredients, regional authenticity, and genuine hospitality.

The first thing that stands out is the coastal influence. This isn’t red-sauce overload. Instead, the menu reflects the kind of dishes you’d expect from seaside towns along the Amalfi Coast-think house-made pasta with littleneck clams, grilled branzino finished with lemon and herbs, and creamy burrata paired with ripe tomatoes and crusty bread. I ordered their seafood linguine, and what impressed me most was the balance. The sauce was light, allowing the shrimp, mussels, and calamari to shine. According to the National Fisheries Institute, Americans are eating more seafood than ever, with per capita consumption steadily rising in recent years. Restaurants that execute seafood well tend to build loyal followings, and it’s easy to see why this kitchen prioritizes freshness and precision.

The preparation methods are equally thoughtful. From what our server explained-and from what I could taste-many dishes rely on simple techniques: sautéing in high-quality olive oil, quick grilling at high heat to seal in moisture, and finishing with fresh herbs rather than heavy cream. This approach aligns with what culinary authorities like the Italian Academy of Cuisine advocate: preserving ingredient integrity rather than masking flavors. You can taste that philosophy in every bite. The wood-fired pizzas, for example, have a crisp yet chewy crust with just the right char. That texture doesn’t happen by accident; it comes from proper dough fermentation and oven temperature control.

Service plays a big role in the overall experience. During my visit, the staff walked us through specials without rushing, and they offered thoughtful wine pairings for each course. The wine list focuses on Italian varietals-Vermentino, Sangiovese, and Nero d’Avola-carefully selected to complement the seafood-forward menu. I appreciated that our server didn’t just suggest the most expensive bottle but explained flavor profiles and why certain wines work better with briny shellfish or tomato-based sauces. That level of guidance builds trust and shows a real understanding of food and beverage pairing.

Online reviews echo my experience. Many diners mention consistent quality, attentive service, and a welcoming atmosphere. While no restaurant is perfect-weekend wait times can stretch during peak hours-the consistency across multiple visits is notable. I’ve spoken with locals who’ve returned several times, ordering different items each visit, and they describe the same attention to detail. In the restaurant world, repeat customers are the ultimate proof of reliability.

The interior design deserves mention too. The space feels airy and modern, with subtle nautical touches that reinforce the coastal Italian concept without turning kitschy. It’s equally suited for a date night, a family dinner, or even a small celebration. The bar area hums with energy, especially when craft cocktails start flowing-many inspired by Mediterranean ingredients like blood orange and rosemary.

What sets this place apart from other Italian restaurants in the Merrimack Valley is its clear identity. It doesn’t try to be everything to everyone. Instead, it leans confidently into coastal cuisine, high-quality seafood, house-made pasta, and a curated wine program. That focus shows up in execution. As someone who has dined at both casual trattorias and upscale Italian establishments across New England, I can say the balance here feels intentional. The portions are generous without being overwhelming, and the flavors are layered without being complicated.

For anyone searching restaurant reviews before deciding where to eat in Haverhill, this location at 160 Merrimack St stands out for its cohesive concept and consistent delivery. Whether you’re scanning the menu online beforehand or walking in on impulse, you’ll find a kitchen that respects tradition while delivering a polished, contemporary dining experience grounded in fresh ingredients and genuine hospitality.

  • I happen to discover this place driving by. What an amazing spot. Great view, delicious and innovative food, fabulous atmosphere. Enjoyed all of it. Go for a drink at the rooftop bar first and then enjoy dinner by the river. Lily was our waitress and she was phenomenal. Highly recommend.

  • My boyfriend and I came in for dinner last week since we had a gift card and a few reasons to celebrate. It was the best dinner atmosphere with music at the perfect level, and not many other people. The service was excellent! Our waitress was very helpful and so sweet. I got the lamb cavatelli, and my boyfriend got the cioppino, both were incredible! We can't wait to go back, and maybe sit outside in one of the heated igloos.

  • My wife and I had the pleasure to dine at Bosa tonight . It was her birthday and we’ve been wanting to try it out . Matt was our server and he went above and beyond to make our experience special . He made good recommendations and suggested a bottle of wine that would pair with our entree's. We got dessert and he brought out a beautiful ricotta pie on a happy birthday plate with a candle . And had a personalized birthday card from him and the staff here at Bosa . Everything was top notch and we will definitely be back !

  • Absolutely blown away by our experience at BOSA Coastal Italian! From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by a warm and welcoming atmosphere—elegant, coastal-inspired, and beautifully put together. The vibe alone sets the tone for something special. But let’s talk about the food… WOW. Every single dish we ordered was absolutely delicious—no exaggeration. We started with the Margherita Pizza and Calamari, and both were outstanding. Crisp, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. Then came the entrées: the Halibut and Baked Cod. Both were melt-in-your-mouth amazing, and the sauce on the cod? Bursting with flavor—we couldn’t get enough. Now for the service… next level. From Manager Alex to our wonderful waitress Ella, we received nothing short of world-class hospitality. Friendly, attentive, and truly made us feel like VIPs. Needless to say, BOSA just became a new favorite. We’ll definitely be back—frequently. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

  • Dined in a Snow Globe. Awesome Experience. Jordan was our Waitress and Exceptional. The Atmosphere and Service is impecible. The Food is not awesome. I am Italian, I cook Italian and learned from the Pasta Mama's in the North End, And Lets just say, I would rather eat my own Italian Food that i cook at home. I would go back just because the service and atmosphere is great. I might stop to eat somewhere else before, and just have awesome cocktails in a great space.

  • We ended up at BOSA tonight by accident — and wow. I’ll be honest: I went there twice when they first opened, and the both visits were bad enough that I never went back. Tonight changed that completely. New management and a new kitchen staff have transformed the place. The bread service with the sun dried tomato oil was unreal. The gnocchi was fantastic, the bolognese with homemade pasta was spot on, and the brownie skillet sealed the deal. Shoutout to our server Laina as well — she made the whole night smooth and enjoyable. Total redemption arc. We’ll definitely be back.

  • Came here for a Thursday night birthday celebration and had a wonderful meal. We sat inside, but the outside back patio on the river looked really nice. The service was attentive & friendly (our waitress was great), food was delicious and portions perfectly sized, and the ambiance of the restaurant was cozy and perfect. I honestly do not have a bad thing to say about this place and I definitely think that we’ll be back for date night as I’ll be dreaming about the cacio e pepe risotto & burrata until then!

  • We had a great experience at Bosa! The atmosphere was warm and inviting, the food was exceptional, and the service was top-notch. We even got to meet the general manager, Charles. He was incredibly friendly, attentive, and genuinely passionate about what he does. Charles took the time to chat with us and shared some exciting ideas for upcoming events at the restaurant. It’s clear that Bosa is in great hands with Charles leading the way. We’ll definitely be back and can’t wait to see what’s next!
